Chessed

Shimon the Righteous was one of the last of the Men of the Great Assembly. He used to say:

The world stands upon three things: the Torah, the Temple service, and the practice of acts of piety (Chessed).

The notion of “giving back”, or being a contributor to society, is not merely sourced throughout the Torah, it is a practice that is in the very foundation of our religion. Too often a typical high school schedule does not allow for the student to carve out ample time to volunteer and dedicate themselves to acts of chessed. In the JCHS model, our students will have a menu to choose from and will be dedicated to semester long acts of chessed. Our custom schedule will allow students to have the unique ability to give back to many worthy causes while not feeling the pressure to do so only after school hours. Be it helping our special needs community, soup kitchens, habitat for humanity, the homeless, JFS, Sova Pantry, students helping seniors, and many more worthy organizations, our students will be on the front lines. Chessed will be embedded in their day, as contributing is an integral part of who they are.
