Physical Education

וְנִשְׁמַרְתֶּ֥ם מְאֹ֖ד לְנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶ֑ם

For your own sake, therefore, be most careful - (Deuteronomy 4:15)

As a Biblical commandment, our physical and mental health is not only a requirement, but it is a form of preservation, and is always viewed with a proactive lens.  Statistics show that students aged 12 to 18 have an increased risk of anxiety, especially from school, which can lead to many mental and physical strains. A way to combat this is to embrace an active lifestyle that promotes movement and mental wellness. It is not easy to dedicate “after school” hours to these vital activities, which is precisely why JCHS builds this into our every day routine. Yoga, Pilates, boot camp training, spinning, circuit training, and a gym membership are all part of our approach to physical education. Students will have the opportunities to enroll in one or more of these “off campus” studios, while earning Physical Education credits.

Although we encourage our students to dream big and aim for the stars, playing professional sports is a very difficult feat. Teaching our students to engage in physical activity that can be continued into adulthood and giving them the opportunity to learn how to navigate these environments while in their high school years will catapult them and give them an edge for a healthier future. Our staff members will also be present at these venues, as physical and mental wellness is equally important for our staff members.
