Passion Projects

Google created something revolutionary within their workspace, the 80/20 rule. The rule was simple, and it changed history forever. Employees were required to work on their daily/weekly/monthly/yearly projects only 80 percent of their paid hours, and Google insisted that the other (on the clock) 20 percent should be dedicated to the employees’ passion projects. The results were nothing short of magical. The employees were producing high level, creative, groundbreaking work on their 20 percent time. To make it even sweeter, Google was so serious about the 20 percent truly being “passion time” that when the employees invented and created new products that Google felt were worthy of implementation, they BOUGHT the design from their employees.

No wonder their #culture is so special and innovatively productive. School can be the same way, but unfortunately, it is not. Jewish Culture High School is changing that. The founders of Google recognized that their employees were passionate, creative geniuses; we here at JCHS feel the same way about our learners. We believe in our students’ ability so much, and we know that some of the best ideas come when passion is present. Passion drives creativity. Creativity leads to innovation. Innovation changes the world. Our students are going to change the world, and we will not stand in their way!
